Exactly thirteen months to the day today! What a day this was! Started with reggae brunch celebrating a friend’s birthday. Let me tell you something, I have never been to a reggae brunch before but boi! I am for sure going to the next one! It is a whole Vibe. There are different themes to the brunch – RnB, bingo, et al, my gyal chose reggae and it was so much fun! it is a day event starting at 11am and finishes before 5/6pm. You get a three course meal with drinks (you can order more) and a DJ who jams reggae, dub, soca and everything in between!

Even though it was an 11am start, not happening! I like my lie-in! I skipped the food and went for the drinks only which started from 2pm! Let’s just say, almost 3 hours in and I was done! and this was only the first part of celebrating! there was the dinner and night thing in a few hours! yeah! my friend’s party hard when the mood strikes lol

birthday gyal!

As it was a gorgeous summer day, Neal decided to meet up with me post by boozy brunch, to grab a bite and what not. We ended up in The Dairy, Clapham, South London (side note, we used to live down this way, it was good to be back in our old stomping ground)! Apparently, Neal had coveted coming here for a meal for a while so here we are! We went for out for a full taster menu paired with wine (I know after my boozy brunch!) don’t be judging me people lol! We started off with a selection if snacks and what a selection it was. Bite size delights that said “welcome, you are in for a treat”!

You lot know how I feel about bread, nonetheless, I appreciate a good breadbasket and the one here was like a sack filled with fresh-out-of-the oven like sourdough bread served with chicken live mousse (yes, mousse) and smoked bone marrow butter! Can I just say, massive s/o to chefs who come up with the butters and such like, to go with bread, buns or whatever pastry because these spreads are seriously so good! I mean Chicken live mousse people? Exactly!

Still on the bone marrow, then came the second course – the utterly delicious bone marrow agnolotti, chestnut mushrooms and wax beans. The dark brown colour of this dish, I found to be oddly pleasing to my eye! It tasted. The agnolotti was layered goodness that was just perfect with the wine!  The Cornish mussels, green kimchi and brown shrimp again, just full of flavour that bursts on your palate. The menu at first glance seemed very vegetarian but there was also meat and chicken on the menu as supplements which of course we tried.  Chicken was herb fed with sweetcorn, girolles and dandelion leaves – think chicken salad but very posh! The dressing was yummy!  The beef course was tender cuts of beef expertly cooked – tender and moist. I mean this menu was giving me life!

Palate cleansers are my thing, sounds weird I know. I mean it’s usually a sorbet of some kind but in my experience, sorbets are not ordinary and is serious business.  At La Colombe, it is a show with liquid nitrogen and in restaurant Nigrum it’s served with Ruinart rose champers!

yep! palate cleansers go harrrddd!

The Dairy’s sorbet might not have been OTT, it was, however, a peach sorbet with sunflower seeds! Perfect palate cleanser for the yummy puddings to come!  I mean the pastry chef here is BONKERS! He/She went ham with the pudding here, I mean HAM! We sampled salted caramel, malted barley ice cream and cocoa!  I am an ice cream girl and I love a good crunch and this desert had it in spades. I mean who does not love a good ol fashioned tart eh? The cherry bake well was just that but it also had toasted almond ice cream and maraschino! I was in heaven, ice cream heaven to be precise and It was scrumptious!

This early evening din dins treat was exactly what I needed after reggae brunch! I miss summer days being out and about in these streets!

Cheers
